One of the legacies left by the LibDems is the location of the additional parking. After Andrew Hodges’ personal intervention, the Guildford Council’s Executive reconsidered the siting of the extension, following representations by residents, and noting that the consultation, which had been expected to be carried out by the last council had not been done.

The Monitoring Officer of the Council advised that neither Andrew Hodges nor Vivienne Johnson could speak on the matter at committee as we apparently had a prejudicial interest as we had discussed the original application with Council officers before it was submitted.

Residents, especially in Abbotswood, remain annoyed at the consent of the car park, albeit on a slightly smaller scale. Andrew Hodges, as ward member, has always spoken out against the extension, when he was able. He is particularly concerned that time has been against us, as the original decision, taken before the Conservatives regained control of the Council, led others to the conclusion that the principle of the scheme should continue. The plans were debated at the planning committee but were approved.

Boxgrove School

Work has begun on the works at Boxgrove School. A revised planning application was put in at the same time, causing some disquiet and cynicism with local residents. However, like it or not, the principle was well established. The new permission was really a change of detail within the elements of the new building . So far, no detailed plans for the housing on the other school site have been submitted.
