The regaining by the Conservatives, after 12 years, of Guildford Borough Council was a great achievement. Thank you to all those who voted for us. The disappointment was that by three votes we did not regain the second seat in Christchurch. The postal voting system was a clear success for democracy turnout across the Borough was up, and in Christchurch we had a turnout of 66.4%, beaten only in Effingham at 67.6%! Just for the record the votes in Christchurch were as follows:

Andrew Hodges has now been elected as the Leader of the Council. There is a considerable amount of work to be done to pick up the pieces after the weak administration of the past. There are many inherited problems to be addressed and our election pledges to fulfil. We shall work as fast as we can to deliver our pledges to the people of Guildford.
So far we have initiated discussions with the Police, and started to get to grips with the recycling programme, trying to bring order to the scattergun approach of the previous administration.
