Entertainment for you

A new vision is being developed for entertainment in Guildford.  With the losses of the Civic Hall continually rising and the subsidy to the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre increasing a new way forward to give Guildford a top-notch entertainment centre has been put forward by the new Conservative Administration. It will bring renewed life in entertainment and see the theatre continue in strength. After the dithering and delay under the last Borough Council administration, Andrew Hodges is determined that the project for a 21century entertainment centre should become a reality not remain a pipe dream.

Tangier Road

The planning appeal against the Council’s refusal for three houses  at 16/18 Tangier Road has been granted by the planning inspector on appeal, despite the efforts of local residents and councillors.  This disappointing result will make dealing with similar applications increasingly difficult – but Andrew Hodges remains determined to do all he can to protect the local environment.

The appeal against the four applications at the top of Tangier Road will not only be a pubic enquiry  on 16/17 September, but also subject to determination by the Secretary of State.  This is very important as it will expose the conflict between the character of the area and the Planning Guidance (PPG3), which wants higher density.   As many residents as possible who have an interest should make their views known

Progress in the town centre

The completion of the revised development brief for the site adjacent to the Friary Centre is crucial to the vibrancy of the town.  Andrew Hodges is working to see a development brief for the site lead to the approval of an appropriate planning application and a start on redevelopment, which is long overdue on this important town centre site.  Additional housing is being written into brief at least 30% of which will be affordable.  The Guildford Council’s Executive will consider the brief for approval on 26 June.
