Plans for new rail station

Plans for the complete redevelopment of Guildford Station are being prepared.  The applicants have promised a lot of public participation before the plans are submitted in Summer 2003.

Postal voting May 2003

Guildford Council’s application to have 100% postal voting at the Borough Council elections in May has been granted.  Full details will be given shortly.  This should increase the turnout of electorate.

 Well known properties

Guildford Council is at last taking decisions on the future of some well-known properties it owns in Guildford.  Andrew Hodges believes a Conservative Council would have made decisions much sooner, thus saving time and money, and not leaving buildings empty in some case for a very long time.

Centenary Hall Chapel Street.  The freehold interest in this site will be disposed of on the most economically advantageous terms in order to bring this vacant property into use.

The former Discovery Centre, Ward Street. Surrey County Council is to take a lease to enable its Youth Development Service to use the former Discovery Centre as a primary base for youth work delivery and the Connexions Service. The Connexions Service is for those aged 13-19 who want advice on getting to where they want to be in life. Connexions personal advisers give information, advice and practical help with all sorts of things. They can help with anything which might be affecting young people at school, college, work or in their personal or family life.

170 High Street Guildford – Thorps Bookshop. The Council has agreed to select the most economically advantageous offer in respect of the property, provided that the prospective use is sensitive to the fabric of the building.

Town twinning

Guildford is currently twinned with Freiburg in Germany.  Guildford Council is now set to consult those local individuals and groups involved in existing links with Uganda about the type of special link that the Council should consider establishing with Uganda. Andrew Hodges would like to hear your views on this proposal.
