CIVIC HALL

THE DECISION ON THE CIVIC HALL has been to rebuild at London Road. After four debates the Conservative and Labour Councillors ensured the Council chose Miller Developments to design the scheme based on their proposal to build the best specified Civic Hall.  Much play has been made as to whether a foodstore should be built to help enable the development and thus reduce the Council’s contribution to the cost of the scheme.  NO decision has yet been taken on this.  Council officers are negotiating with the developers and their results should be known before the end of April.

Andrew Hodges inspects a model at the public consultation

At a recent Council meeting one of the Liberal Democrat councillors suggested that only Council tax payers should be consulted!  Conservatives disagree with this idea. All people’s views are of importance.

CONSULTATIONS

BOTH CONSULTATIONS IN THE WARD have been delayed – for the plans for the extension to Spectrum car park, and Phase 4B parking, albeit for different reasons.  It is likely they will take place before the next edition of ISSUES, so if you want to make sure you know the date, send Andrew Hodges your email address  and he will ensure that the dates are emailed to you

The Residents’ Survey  to provide feedback on how residents are aware, use and are satisfied with Council’s services is carried out by the Council every two years and takes place during February.  This will again include a survey of young people.

Andrew Hodges visited the Conservative Society at the University of Surrey’s Refreshers fair to listen to their views

MOBILE PHONE MASTS

THE APPEAL AGAINST THE REFUSAL of planning permission for the mobile phone mast in Cross Lanes was granted by the Planning inspector, with costs awarded against the Council.  Unless there were to be a change in the law, and this is extremely unlikely, it will become increasingly difficult to resist such masts.  The Council will, however, investigate whether the owners of London Square would incorporate the mast internally.
