November/December 2000 No 81

| From Andrew Hodges, your
Christchurch Ward Conservative Councillor
SPECTRUM CAR PARKING THE BATTLE OVER MORE PARKING at Spectrum rumbles on. The Executive of Guildford Council has now further considered the proposals, following the deferment which Andrew Hodges achieved in the summer and has requested more work to be carried out into alternatives, particularly with regard to park and ride. ALCOHOL BYLAW THE BYLAW TO PREVENT DRINKING in public streets, in the town centre, initiated by Guildford Conservatives and overwhelmingly supported by the Citizens’ panel, has been approved in its draft form by the Home Office. The formal notice and final approval should be achieved this year. SHUTTLE BUS GUILDFORD SHUTTLE BUS has come to town. It will be particularly useful for parents with small children, those with walking difficulties and people carrying heavy shopping. The free shuttle bus circuits the town centre every 15 minutes, Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 8.30am to 5.30pm. It stops at convenient points marked with the distinctive circular shuttle bus logo. The current timetable will run until 3 March 2001. Feedback is important to plan for the future transport needs of the town. Please send any comments you have to The Director of Environmental and Planning Services, Guildford Borough Council, Millmead House, Millmead, Guildford, Surrey GU2 4BB and Andrew Hodges.

BENEFIT TO GUILDFORD – STOKE PARK
Stoke Park THE PUBLIC MEETING held at Burchatts Barn, to discuss Stoke Park was both constructive and enjoyable. Many of those residents present expressed an interest in becoming involved in a Management Advisory Group and this is likely to meet before Christmas. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the main priority issue was that of cleanliness of the Park. Few people wanted to see any significant changes to be made to the Park.
NOT WANTED AT SLYFIELD – AN INCINERATOR GUILDFORD RESIDENTS from across the Borough continue to express their opposition to the proposal for an incinerator at Slyfield . Guildford Council’s Executive Committee unanimously supported Andrew Hodges’ proposal to inform the Environment Agency that, from an environmental health viewpoint, the Slyfield location would be WRONG. |
