PARK
-YOUR PARK HAVE YOUR SAY on Stoke Park – come to a meeting with your local councillors and Parks Staff to look at various aspects of the Park, and events that go on there. Thursday, October 19 at 7pm in Burchatts Barn. There will be an opportunity to join a new ‘Friends of Stoke Park ‘ group. In the meantime, what did you think of the Fusion Festival at the end of July? Please write to the Council and copy to Andrew Hodges. COUNCIL IN TRIAL GUILDFORD RESIDENTS WILL BE ASKED THEIR VIEWS on the ‘cabinet’ style of government which goes into trial in September. The Executive is chaired by a Liberal Democrat (as the largest group). The Conservatives have four seats, and continue to be led by Andrew Hodges. This is not a coalition, and Conservatives will strive to put their policies into practice wherever possible. SPECTRUM CAR PARKING ANDREW HODGES STEPPED IN to defer plans to concrete over the last remaining grassy spaces next to Guildford Spectrum. Proposals to expand Park and Ride there were rejected a year ago, with councillors insisting that the Council look elsewhere. But Councillors have yet again been faced with the Spectrum plan and an incomplete report on sites that would provide suitable alternatives. Andrew Hodges expressed dismay at the lack of consultation and failure to examine options to extending Spectrum car park. This is now happening, but the threat is still there. |
SUPPORTING YOUNG PEOPLE GUILDFORD YOUNG PEOPLE made a good showing at the Surrey Youth Games on Stoke Park in the summer. The Games are part of the Millennium Youth Games, the world’s largest sporting event for young people. Andrew Hodges enjoying the Youth Games on Stoke Park. BOXGROVE SCHOOL THE PLANS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AT BOXGROVE SCHOOL were approved by the County Council, despite the concerns expressed locally on various aspects, one of the most critical being traffic.
