BENEFITS FOR ALL AS LEISURE CARD TAKES SHAPE

GUILDFORD COUNCIL HAS APPROVED PLANS to introduce a Leisure card for all borough residents at no charge. It will enable cardholders to receive special discounts and take advantage of other offers available exclusively. This is the first major pledge in the 1999 election Conservative manifesto to be achieved. With Labour support and despite the Liberal Democrats seeking reasons to oppose, Guildford Conservatives succeeded in progressing an imaginative scheme. This success has been possible because it is a good idea supported by a majority of the Council. Andrew Hodges has been promoting this as a key issue throughout 1999, and is delighted that 2000 will see this come to fruition – giving benefits to Spectrum and other leisure facilities, while at the same time cardholders will be able to benefit from offers provided in the private sector. It will be interesting to see if the Liberal Democrats will try and frustrate this project, or acknowledge that they got it wrong.

The scheme is scheduled to start in April. So, watch out for details of how to apply for a card. It will be free to all borough residents, and available to those living outside the Borough for a charge of £5.

BOXGROVE SCHOOL PLANS

THE PLANS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AT BOXGROVE SCHOOL ARE EXPECTED TO BE LODGED EARLY THIS YEAR.

Your Borough Councillor, Andrew Hodges, and County Councillor, Nick Brougham, have been working behind the schemes with the County Council officers to achieves mitigation in respect of traffic if the Boxgrove School redevelopment proceeds as is the headmistress and the governors wish. We wish to see a solution which addresses the needs of the whole community.
