HUNG COUNCIL
AS THE COUNCIL HAS NO OVERALL CONTROL, as the largest group the Liberal Democrats will chair committees. Conservatives will take an active part in supporting and initiating the right policies for Guildford. -Liberal Democrats 20, Conservatives 17, Labour 6 and Independents 2.
PHASE FOUR PARKING
THIS WILL CONTINUE TO BE AN ISSUE THIS YEAR. The plans are being revisited to see if options more acceptable to a majority of residents can be achieved. There are roads where petitions have been submitted objecting to any restriction - such as Avonmore Aveune and Broadwater Rise. In Ennismore Avenue a majority of residents have expressed welcome for parking restrictions, but some want no change. Andrew Hodges believes that there innovative options which could assist the various needs and wishes of residents and he will continue to seek the most acceptable solution.
LANESBOROUGH SCHOOL IS AQUIRING MARKHAM HOUSE in Maori Road. The school is seeking planning permission to join the building to the existing school and improve accommodation and, in part, address the parking difficulties in the area.
YVONNE ARNAUD
A BLUE PLAQUE MARKING THE HOUSE, in London Road, where Yvonne Arnaud lived has been erected. Andrew Hodges had requested that this should be done, and with the kind agreement of the present owners it has. It will be officially inveiled in June.
TRAFFIC
SPEED LIMITS OF 30MPH are proposed for London Road from Cross Lanes to Clay Lane, Burpham, the limit is currently 40MPH. Please let Andrew Hodges know your views. Any objections have to be in by 11 June.
AWARD
ANDREW HODGES HAS BEEN PRESENTED with the cup for the individual who has been judged by the Guildford Conservative Association to have made the most outstanding individual contribution to the party in the last year.
A personal message from David Hunter
As well as thanking everybody who voted for me and providing the closest finish of all the wards of the Borough, I would like to thank all those people I spoke to on a range of subjects, not all to do with local matters. I did enjoy meeting you all, acquaintances and friends and my apologies to those that I did not call on during the last six weeks. Between Andrew and I and our helpers, we tried to call on everybody and hopefully , next time I will meet those that I missed this time. Thank you all for your very encouraging support.
ELMDON
Plans for conversion to offices passed. Will they be implemented we ask?
