| Collection of
plastics
Another election pledge fulfilled
|
Many roads in Christchurch are included in the trial of the collection of plastics which starts in March. After careful planning and having carried out proper costings once the feasibility plan was complete, Guildford Council is now ready to implement a pilot scheme to collect plastic bottles from your kerbside. Guildford was the top Surrey district for recycling last year, and this is a further measure to boost that performance by increasing the materials for recyclingthat are picked up at the kerbside. As the collections are by rounds not all roads in Christchurch will be included. If you wish to check if your road is included, please email Andrew Hodges on andrew.hodges@guildford.gov.uk .

| Half
the truth and the whole truth
How many of you saw the Autumn 2005 edition of the Liberal Democrat Focus on Christchurch with a chart purporting to show the result of the local elections in 2003? It was under a heading of "It’s so close here" and showed the information in the top chart below. Yes, it was close - but look at the bottom chart and you will see why the Liberal Democrats only gave you half the story!

| David Cameron is good news | |

The
new ideas David Cameron is bringing to the Conservative Party auger well
for residents of Guildford.
Andrew Hodges was delighted to meet the new Leader of the Conservative Party, who has already set in motion important policy reviews, which will report in about eighteen months’ time.

| Casino
for Guildford?
The public consultation as to whether there should be the possibility of a casino in Guildford is going on now. A report will go to the Executive of Guildford Council in mid March. The Citizens Panel and local groups have been contacted. If you want your view heard contact the Licensing Unit at Millmead or Andrew Hodges, who chairs the Executive. The full Council will have the final say as to whether Guildford should seek authority to grant casino licences. Were the council to support the idea of a large casino, there is no guarantee the Panel, set up by central Government, would grant that authority - and if it did to whom it would be granted.

| Friary
update
The plans are now in for the "reserved matters" ( i.e the details for the approved outline planning application) for the extension to the Friary centre. These will go through the normal planning procedures, and another hurdle will jumped as soon as they can be agreed.
