| Queen
makes Royal visit
|

|
HM the Queen’s visit was a great success. After HM the Queen and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh had visited the Cathedral for the Queen to present the Maundy Money, they made a Civic visit. The Queen had a short walkabout in the High Street, where there were throngs of people, young and old, who cheered and greeted her. She was presented with a traditional plum cake and then attended a luncheon hosted by the Mayor. Andrew Hodges was privileged to attend the luncheon. One of the most frequently asked questions has been "what was for lunch?" , so a copy of the menu is shown here.

| Detailed plans for the Friary Extension have now been approved | |
![]() |
|
| The
plans for the Friary move a stage closer to construction as the detailed
plans have been approved.
There is still a lot of work to be undertaken before there will be obvious changes and building. Some of the frontage to North Street will remain, such as the listed building currently occupied by Bar Ha! Ha!, but next to it will be one of the lanes running into the new centre, as shown in the artist’s impression on the right .There is still much work to be done before major work can start, but compulsory purchase orders and road closures have been obtained. The first major work that has to be carried out is the moving of a main electricity cable. When the building work starts in earnest, Guildford Council will work with the County Council to try and keep disruption to a minimum.
