Bus
passes
From April bus travel for people over 60 and people with disabilities will be free, for all bus travel, except "dial-a ride". Guildford Council is urging new applicants to apply now - to beat the rush! There could be a huge increase in applications, so if you are eligible and do not currently have a bus pass, please apply as soon as possible so as to get your permit in time for April.

Extra help is available to people looking for funding opportunities for their local group in the shape of a special interactive database, Guildford 4 Community. It takes less than a minute to register and gives people access to funding opportunities from a variety of organisations, free of charge. You can find the database on the Council’s website at www.guildford.gov.uk and click on "community pages".You can create your own funding search to match your project criteria and get fast, up-to-date information on a variety of government, lottery, trust funding and European Union schemes. After ten years managing Spectrum, Peter Gunn has been
head-hunted to run the Bournemouth International Conference Centre. He has made
Spectrum the success it is today. He will be succeeded by Claire Davenport who
has many ideas so as to keep Spectrum at the forefront of the country’s
leisure facilities. We wish her well as she takes up her new responsibilites.

Delivering our key priorities
Last year the Council made a grant of £100,000 towards the rebuilding of the Waterside Centre on Bellfields, in the adjacent Stoke Ward. The new facilities have now been opened and allow the Wey Kayak Club, the prominent club at the Centre, to continue to maintain and develop a wide range of activities for disadvantaged and diverse groups, including futher links with Christ’s College, Surrey Sports development Unit, Surrey Sports Partnership and the Borough Council.
More recently the Council has set aside £24,000 to fund the refurbishment of the Park Barn Martial Arts and Healthy Living Centre, in order to meet health & safety standards and to make the building fully functional for the local community.
Both of these projects are in an area of the town where they can be used to achieve social cohesion - ensuring our diverse community can live in safety and with dignity, supporting a range of activities and facilities.
